Just finished an install of NLD 10 beta 5. The setup went fair. Novell is rewriting the installation routines and it’s not finished. After the install there was a problem in the video drivers (known issue) which required an update (manual). Also KDE was setup by default…didn’t see where to change that during the install. I’m writing this post using FF running on NLD. Quite cool, actually.

Yea..nice title huh. If I had the patience to snap a pic of my front page this morning…it would tell a thousand words. Tampa is  obscured in a cloud. Fog….1/4 m vis, no airplanes taking off or landing and the weather bug on the front page is obscured as well. Nice.

Me and the boys were going out on the boat this morning. Not now.

First Computer to Exceed 1 Terabyte per Second on HPCC Benchmark Test

Interesting story from Linux Electrons. I guess the folks over at Sandia don’t get to “put it all together” very often. All of the 13,950 nodes combined bust out a previous benchmark by over 40x.

Enjoy the read.

Trying to find something that will allow me much better distance in my 802.11 network. Low and behold what www.80211.net created. NICE! I have access all throughout my 2 acre property with a single AP in the middle! (Found it on http://www.zoopster.net)

Oracle tried to buy open-source MySQL | CNET News.com

Thank goodness. Oracle is trying to buy up and shut down every type of competition they can find…PeopleSoft is  great example. Monopolistic practices…sure wish there would be a “singularity” amongst these large conglomerates.

The days are getting longer (thank goodness) and the air is getting warmer. I’m happy to report that my job is getting more boring everyday. In order to spice it up, I have to travel. I am to the point where travel really stinks. However, I have to do my job so I’m trying to figure out how to balance it better. I’ve been researching a lot of new and quite interesting “Web 2.0″ technology and you’ll see some cool stuff coming to this blog over the next few days.

For now. I continue to dream of weekends on my boat catching the big fish. It’s here, I just need to balance out my time and get on it.

My wife is getting larger by the day (this is week 21) and I can tell she is getting more and more uncomfortable with every day’s passage. I’ll post some picture links later.

I’m one good slacker. I sure wish I could get into a groove and write on this blog regularly.

I’ve been working my tail off and not seeing the “lights”. For instance, today I’ve been responding to things here and there and for the most part slacking off. I’m just not motivated to do much today. I guess it’s the cold weather. It was near freezing here (yea…big deal down here) and I’ve been moving like a cold blooded frog in the cold. I guess that will change later this week when the warm weather returns.

Original title, huh? This will be the origination, the genesis, the beginning (I’ll have to think of more synonyms) of a diary of sorts. I’ve never really been able to capture my thoughts and at 41 I’ve had a few. I guess I need to start by putting some facts on the table about my life.

I was born in a podunk, lower Alabama Florida city and spent my early years learning the ropes of “street life” in this relatively small navy town. Unfortunately for me, I grew to dislike the navy transients and thus grew to go a different direction than serving my country. The “unfortunately” part is that I found myself really enjoying flying when I was granted a Single Engine Land pilot’s license by the FAA in 1995. I could have potentially been a kick butt pilot and be living an interesting life as a commercial pilot at this point in my life. What makes this palatable is the fact that the past is the past and I’m now living my dream as a husband and father with an awesome wife and a great life.

Well I’m going to stop this dissertation for now and start updating what happens with me on a personal level, my work on a professional level, and what I love best.
