Matt Asay (a former Novell employee) speaks about open source and myths/facts about selling open source. Interesting read. Find it here .
Liz is getting closer and closer to the magical date. We are pretty much in a holding mode right now waiting on that magical day. 9 June is now the latest the Dr’s will let her go which is 38 weeks. Hopefully, we’ll see the beginning of labor just after Memorial Day. Liz is quite uncomfortable and having a hard time with the fact that she is not able to do the things she is used to doing. This has been a wonderful experience unlike any that I have had prior. More to come.
I am in the middle of doing some research to find the next best thing in collaboration. That collaboration word is a really big word, but for our purposes here collaboration simply means online communication. You know - email, managing your calendar, time maintenance, document/information storage and retrieval.
I’ve found some interesting companies in my searches and will outline them below. Most of these are more related to webtop “vendors” who are creating an online space where you can have access to a “desktop” online. These are all Web 2.0 type applications utilizing AJAX, XHTML, RSS/ATOM, and other “new” web technology.
Netvibes.com is the first one I’ll review.
Netvibes has a very clean interface. It’s probably the newest of the “webtops”, but it’s also fast and simple to use. They do support pop and del.icio.us, but they don’t have any functional apps such as a writer app or a way to change the background.
I had to punt on this for now…I’ll be back to it shortly.
is now available at opensuse.org. One of the interesting features is support for XGL. There is some info on it here.
