The coolest thing about open source is the people. If you’ve helped develop, test, promote, or evangelize Linux and open source, we’d love to hear from you. So stand up and let us see where you are. Take a few minutes to put yourself on the map and you could win one of these great prizes.

Micro Persuasion: Original Signal Transmits Attention Data and Feeds
This is pretty interesting. I’ve been following Original Signal for a while now. I like it because I can see what I haven’t seen and they keep adding feeds that are of interest to ME. Besides, it’s web 2.0 built.

They are so lame as is Digg. Why, you ask? Well…front page of Slashdot this morning “Space Shuttle Atlantis Delayed Again”. Well, Slashdot…that’s OLD news. The shuttle is STILL scheduled to go up this morning between 11a and 12p ET. I’m sorry, but Slashdot continues to be about as lame as our politicians on the hill.

Remember the$100 Laptop? Well it has a new name. The new name 2B1 is supposed to be a methaphor, it appears, to the One Laptop per Child initiative. This feature packed, but slow device will have the ability to do peer to peer networking to share an internet connection (what OS can’t do that today?) and have all the bells and whistles that the latest and greatest has built in at a much lower cost.

The hopes are that the 2B1 can bridge the technology gap in the poorest of countries around the world.

Inside Higher Ed :: Changing the Report, After the Vote

This is f’ing ridiculous. How we let a monopoly change content in a PUBLIC document is just simply appalling. I can’t imagine what value MS brings to this document outside of it’s monopolistic influence in government and why government continues to let the monopoly monopolize as they continue to do. The US Justice Dept needs to get some balls and put restrictions on them as the EU has. The EU declared them a monopoly AND sanctioned them. The US declared MS a monopoly and turned away.

Linux.com | Personal wikis: Three small, simple alternatives

So I wonder if this is any easier than Tomboy which ships with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (and openSUSE 10.1). I can do everything that a wiki does and Tomboy is very compact.

Edubuntu, Linux Terminal Server and thin clients
While I’m not partial to Ubuntu or Debian, LTSP is promising technology. What these articles don’t show is that all of this works fine on EVERY linux distribution. Unbuntu is not alone.

I have several customers that use a terminal server setup with NX and/or Ericom. With NX going open source, that is a very compelling and far more feature functional thin client option.
