Eyecandy for openSUSE - SUSE-Art.org
A little tidbit I found today!
Great title. Some interesting stuff on Linux running on IBM’s “z” series mainframe computers.
The Florida Linux Show is coming to Jacksonville, FL on 11 February 2008.
Microsoft and Novellannounced today the opening of the Microsoft and Novell Open Interoperability Lab in Cambridge, MA.
The lab is approximately 2500 square feet in size and currently houses roughly 80 servers and a Storage Area Network for the current virtualization interoperability work that is being performed.
Getting tired of seeing the idiots trying to break into your boxen via SSH? Want to simply shut them out of hitting your network and tie up a connection on their boxen for a bit?
Put this into your IPTABLES start up scripts.
iptables -I INPUT -p tcp –dport 22 -i eth0 -m state –state NEW -m recent –set
iptables -I INPUT -p tcp –dport 22 -i eth0 -m state –state NEW -m recent –update –seconds 60 –hitcount 4 -j DROP
Mixing religion with software just doesn’t “cut the mustard”.
I am amazed at bloggers, journalists, writers and other etc that continually attempt to cast shadow over articles or announcements such asthis announcement made by Novell and Microsoft recently. This blogger attempts to put his view on the article when no one asked for his view. I’m curious why objectivity is absent from our media and from the minds of most people? Given that MS and Novell feel that this announcement is worth posting and have invested time and money to give customers choice is a GOOD thing. Now one can read into it in many ways, but it appears that the blogger for this article is having a negative day and has protrayed subjectivity in the form of a more negative than neutral spin.
Please don’t read between anything. Read the announcement for what it is - an announcement.
What is even more interesting is the comments. It is obvious that the first few comments are made by people that really don’t enjoy life. Mono is designed from open standards. There is nothing “injected” into the code from a patent concern. The code is open and available for anyone’s inspection.
For that matter, any software may infringe on a poorly policed patent. There are many patents that are “not worthy”. Hence the patent reform pushes. Patents are intended to permit unique idea protection and a lot of patents are filed simply because the filer has the means and knowledge to file a patent.
Ok..so that will be my last tangent on this subject. Please, please be objective. Enjoy life, take in what everyone offers and most importantly, give back that fun to everyone around you. You’ll be glad you did! Oh yea, AND TAKE A CHILD FISHING TODAY!
Groklaw - Judge Kimball rules: There will be no jury in SCO v. Novell
Another nail in the coffin for SCO. As PJ points out, SCO has NOT won over this judge. He really doesn’t like SCO at this point and Novell has all to gain.
Novell announced today that Microsoft is supporting it’s efforts to bring Microsoft’s Silverlight technology to Linux.
Novell’s Miguel de Icaza has been working on building a 100% compatible Silverlight implementation called Moonlight that will run on Linux. Moonlight will be available to run on any linux distribution and will support both the JavaScript programming model (AJAX) as well as the full .NET programming model.
What is truly amazing is the effort put into getting the original proof of concept to a demonstrable point at ReMix 2007 in Paris. The demo and project took on a new meaning after just 21 days of work. The Moonlight team simply rocked.
Head over to the Moonlight project pages and download it. See what it can do for you and please register any bugs you find!
I continue to ponder how one creates a “good” day. Mine has started very nicely. I rested well last night. The boys rested well last night. The family had a great breakfast. We all clicked this morning! After a good quick workout my shower went well and now I’m sitting at my desk getting my work day started. Hmmmm….what is the magic recipe.
More ponderings on the way…
