I can only say wow. Jeremy Alison was one of the most vocal people against the Novell/Microsoft partnership. He left Novell for Google shortly thereafter. I find it quite interesting that he now supports PAYING Microsoft for access to the Samba protocol. I guess that since Jeremy was not part of the original agreement between Novell and Microsoft he felt jilted and instead went out to do the same thing on his own? Yikes.

The World Series of Linux: Round 3, The Championship - Software - IT Channel News by CRN and VARBusiness
Reviews like this are so biased. I feel sorry for the dumb schmo’s who have to endure it. Take a look at what they tested. They put the newest unsupported platforms against a year old distribution. Of course it will fail with newer hardware! Idiot! Try to compare apples to apples! OpenSUSE would win hands down.

I work with the IT industry on a daily basis and I’m baffled at the way that most corporate IT departments spend money. For starters, the CIO or CTO is supposed to set the vision for IT spend and long term operations of a company, right? The CIO needs to hold his direct reports accountable for the efficient operations in the IT Department, right? Then why is IT spend in most enterprises spent with such disregard?
Case in point. I have a friend who works for a fair sized company. They have a number of warehouses and a number of stores that sell a fair amount of product. Fairly standard medium sized business. In my chats with my friend, I constantly hear about how they spend countless days installing a server. What! Countless days? Why is the hardware vendor not installing a standard image? Why do they not have a standardized install procedure? Geez. Installing a server is SOOO simple and SOOO mundane. I can do it with my eyes closed in an hour including Windoze! Another case in point. The same friend mentioned recently that the system they just spend months setting up is going to be re-setup again! What! Talk about job security!!!
I do not get it. I really fail to comprehend how enterprise IT departments can be run with such disregard. It is unfathomable to allow someone to day more than 3 hours to install a server. Any server installer that takes that long on a basic install needs more education or needs to find a different line of work. Unacceptable I say. Please enlighten me!
