Here is another company that is using Amazon EC3. Rightscale allows for a simple interface to create a AWS business and host it at the same time. Not sure I would ever need the scalability, but the idea is so freaking simple, I wish I was a programmer that could program this stuff!!!
This company, Sonian, was at Brainshare this week and I had the pleasure of speaking with Jeff Richards tonight. Quite the interesting concept and it is so simple. They built a piece of software with interfaces to the three major messaging platforms for the archival of data. So what, you say. What is interesting is how they are doing it. This is a SAAS product running on Amazon EC2. The data is stored on S3 and they charge a mere $3 a mailbox.
The interface is quite simple and allows for white labeling very easily. Underneath is ruby on rails, ajax and the basic web 2.0 architecture. Quite slick. So far, the best I have seen at Brainshare this year.
Here’s a neat opensource photoblog posting software built on MySQL and PHP. I really want something like this for Wordpress. I have not yet found anything that works for me on Wordpress. My search continues.
