iptables: Making the network work for you

Nice simple diagram for setting up iptables. I think I need to do a TOS for VOIP and SMTP!

Geez. I have been scratching my head on how to allow a VMWare session to access my local files on my desktop. It is so freakin’ simple. All I needed to do is setup vmnet8 as a internal device in iptables. Now I have access from my VM to my desktop for saving files.

Sometimes I cannot see the forest due to the trees.

Finally getting back in the groove after moving to a new house. Well, sort of.

For starters, the move was a pain in the rear. Lot’s of screw up items in this new house. Primarily because it is old. The previous owners did some funky rigging of things on the cheap. Things like adding a new light switch above an old light switch and then not aligning the switches - no idea why they did not add it to the current box area and make a double gang switchbox?

Here’s another - the security system has everything tied into one rats nest. To make it worse the rats nest goes down a return air vent and out a wall where the primary keypad is installed. Needless to say, I ran home runs to both keypads and am in the process of sorting out the zone configuration and running home runs to each entry point. Cheap bastards.

We also had new carpet installed in several rooms - oh boy. The new carpet has a manufacturer defect and now needs to be replaced. Wonderful. I guess I am not living right.

I have been real busy getting all of these little issues straightened out and am now feeling a sense of accomplishment. I think our old house will be sold real soon!

Wow. I was doing some tinkering with wordpress and found an update. This update really changes the look and feel of the dashboard and all things administrative. Quite nice, really!

The SVN update mechanism is so easy. I have yet to have a problem with a SVN update.
