This article on OStatic is quite interesting. I knew there were other “grid” computing efforts, but didn’t realize that there were a number of the grid efforts that are transforming into cloud computing efforts.

Cloud computing (like Amazon’s EC2 project) are rising in popularity. Amazon stepped out ahead of pack mainly for its own benefit, but they have really allowed others to understand more about cloud computing and what it can do for the computing industry.

I see cloud computing as being extremely cost effective and beneficial to mid-market businesses. Those companies that have computing needs and cannot afford the TCO of a system maintained in house can easily setup and manage an appliance like application through cloud computing quite easily.

Sounds to me like an interesting opportunity!
